Benefit to needling newer scar?
« on: February 12, 2014, 10:58:08 AM »
I have a very thin surgical mark. It's about 5-6 months old, and it's starting to go white in some areas but it's still a little pink all around.

I'm 25. In very good health.

Is it safe to start micro-needling now?? Is there any benefit to needling before a scar has fully matured?

Thanks!

Yes, it is safe to start microneedling. You can start about 6-8 weeks after the scar was formed.

If the scar is hypertrophic (raised), apply the pressure massage described here:

https://http://forums.owndoc.com/dermarolling-microneedling/what-to-do-about-hypertrophic-scars/msg4877/#msg4877

As soon as the scar is flat, stop doing the pressure massage.

For thin scars, buy our 1.5 mm dermastamp with 12 needles and stamp the scar very densely every three weeks. A scar will never disappear but stamping will smoothe out the texture and slightly improve the color.

Scars that are not  yet fully mature tend to improve more than fully matured scars but it is not always the case.
