Make-up recommendations?
« on: July 18, 2011, 10:21:02 AM »
Do you have any advice for a middle-aged, and beyond :), woman with sensitive, and oily skin who still gets small break outs?  It seems like everything I try causes some problem.  Any ideas of "tried and true" foundations or powders for extremely sensitive skin?

Also, would you recommend salicylic acid peels between my every 6 week derma rolling?  And, if so, what strength acid should I purchase?

Thanks.

Unfortunately I do not have any experience with foundations - hopefully someone on the forum can advise you.

I think using A-Ret (Tretinoin) should keep acne in control.

Yes, you can use salicylic acid peels in between dermarollings. Salicylic acid gets deep into the pores and cleans them if used frequently and long-term.

I will get back to you concerning the percentage of such a peel because I don't know everything :-)

Salicylic acid products for acne contain about 2% active ingredient and the products for psoriasis usually contain about 5% but those are not peels, just creams for daily application.

Hi FINELY :)

I've tried a lot of foundations. Liquid ones tend to make my skin worse.

Now I use a product called "nude" by nature

https://http://www.nudebynature.com.au/

It's mineral make up but unlike others its not cakey. (I tried sheer cover once, at the

end of the day I looked like I had been in a flour food fight ..... slight exaggeration)

Mineral make-up tends to show wrinkles more but this ones pretty good especially when used

with a pore reducer prior to powder.

I've been using salicylic powder & making my own daily lotion. Combined with all Sarah's

products this has improved break outs dramatically & even reduced my pore size.

All the best.

Cheers soon :)

@FINELY

They sell salicylic acid powder & are USA based (i think) so shipping will probably

be cheaper.

I've noticed if I don't use it often my pores start to fill. Hope it works for you.

As nude by nature is Aussie based thought id suggest looking up USA based mineral

Make up. Youngblood is good I've heard but expensive.

A lot of company's will send out free samples so my suggestion is keep trying till your happy.

I recently tried an Avon creamy foundation (freebie) and as usual started fine then looked patchy.

Cheers soon

Finley if you're still getting breakouts I would try adjusting the foods you eat that may get rid of the acne altogether. I myself limit my sugar intake and dairy and eat more vegetables and fruit than anything else. Makeup wise I have very sensitive skin too and foundations turn my skin red and irritated and I don't care if they say oil free if you don't wash off every little bit of it off  IT WILL BREAK YOU OUT. So with that said Im not a big believer in makeup so when I do get the occasional breakout I only use concealer and ONLY on the pimples themselves. I use the neutrogena skin clearing blemish concealer it has only .5% salicylic acid which isn't enough to leave you red and inflamed but it is effective in clearing the pimples. Also I only wash my face once a day at night with a cream cleanser the less you strip tr natural oils off your skin the less oil it will produce thus less breakouts. I find these things help keep my skin less irritated and keeps my pimples under control.
